The female orgasm is – and will likely remain – a mystery. This is not just because many men still don’t know how to get a woman to climax every time, it’s also because there doesn’t appear to be any point to the female orgasm – at least not in terms of reproduction. For men, orgasms are a crucial part of the reproduction process. The female orgasm, however, isn’t a prerequisite for procreation. So what’s it all about? In the following article, we take a look at the female orgasm and what makes it so special.

The female orgasm

Scientists believe that the female orgasm is a kind of litmus test that shows women if the future father of their children is a suitable partner. They also believe that it acts as an incentive to reproduce. After all, if women didn’t climax, they wouldn’t be so keen on having sex. But what makes the female orgasm so special? And why is it so different from its male counterpart?

As countless studies have shown, women usually climax less frequently than men. For many women, this is simply a fact of life, and instead of telling their partner how they can stimulate them, they just accept that they will never, or only rarely, come. Usually, this isn’t just down to the man stimulating the wrong areas, it’s also because women get far too easily distracted by any number of things – or can’t even switch off to begin with.

In general, a lot of processes have to take place in the female body for a woman to orgasm. In fact, there’s a lot going on in both the head and the body. First of all, a woman has to be thinking the right thoughts and stimulated in the right way to trigger the release of oxytocin and dopamine. These chemicals cause women to relax and forget the stress of everyday life. A woman can only climax if she really lets go and blocks out all other distractions for a while. Physically, arousal is indicated by blood flowing to the labia and clitoris, causing these areas to swell, the vagina becomes moist and the heart rate increases. If all this happens at the same time, there is a good chance of a woman climaxing. Female orgasms are usually divided into two categories – vaginal and clitoral orgasms.

Everything You Need to Know About the Female Orgasm

Vaginal or clitoral climax – how to satisfy a woman

In order to climax, most women require both clitoral and vaginal stimulation. Many people don’t believe that a purely vaginal orgasm is possible – and, in fact, this really does only seem to work for very few women. Most require additional clitoral stimulation for the simple reason that a vaginal orgasm is closely linked to the clitoris. The clitoris is a horse-shoe shaped organ at the entrance to the vagina. As such, the clitoris is stimulated every time the vagina is penetrated. Clitoral orgasms are more likely to occur because the clitoris glans (the only part of the clitoris that is visible) is often referred to as the female equivalent to the tip of a man’s penis. So it’s no surprise then that clitoral stimulation is particularly effective for women.

Then, of course, there’s the mysterious G-spot. This is a particularly sensitive area located around five centimetres inside the vagina on the front wall. Or at least that’s where it is supposed to be. There is no actual scientific evidence to support the existence of this unique location, even though this special spot was named after a doctor – or to be more exact special area. Actually, the G-spot isn’t a spot, it’s a zone measuring between 4 and 5 centimetres in size. It was named after the sex researcher and gynaecologist Ernst Gräfenberg – G for Gräfenberg – who was the first person to discover this mysterious zone.

Is masturbation better than sex?

Is masturbation better than sex?

Although it sounds like bad news for men, women do seem to climax more often during masturbation than during sex with their partner. Surveys have shown that 34 percent of women climax during sex with their partner while 45 percent have an orgasm during masturbation. But there’s no need to panic just yet, guys. There are reasons for this. On the one hand, women know the best way to stimulate and arouse themselves, whilst on the other, women are very easily distracted, reducing the chances of having an orgasm. When a woman sleeps with her partner, she is, of course, also concentrating on him, which distracts her from achieving her own orgasm.

So, guys, if you want to increase the chance of getting your partner to climax, simply ask her if you’re touching her in the right spot 😉 There are many different ways you can stimulate her.

Here are a few more facts and figures about the female orgasm:

  • It takes twenty minutes on average for a woman to climax.
  • Around 70 percent of women climax rarely, never or only sometimes. The remaining 30 percent regularly have orgasms.
  • The actual female orgasm can last up to 30 seconds or even longer whereas a male orgasm lasts between three and twelve seconds.
  • As mentioned above, the clitoris plays an important role when stimulating a woman. 80 to 90 percent of all women prefer clitoral stimulation to stimulation on or in the vagina.

So if a woman knows what she needs and the man takes this into consideration, it might just be a little bit easier in future for her to get her kicks too and achieve an orgasm. Have fun 🙂
