The Effects of the Ingredients Panthenol and Camomile

At pjur, we take particular care when choosing our ingredients. In addition to high-grade silicone, we also use additives that are tailored to the individual needs of certain target groups and as such, meet these needs. We are currently launching products that contain the additives panthenol and camomile. So if you want to know exactly why we have chosen these two ingredients, we’re happy to tell you.

Panthenol – what kind of ingredient is it?

Most people will probably have already heard of panthenol as it is frequently used as an ingredient in wound and healing ointments. Panthenol is also used in lots of other products. It is often listed as an ingredient under different names: Panthenol, D-panthenol and dexpanthenol. These are all names for panthenol, a precursor of vitamin B that has long been used to treat skin diseases and mucous membrane disorders. For panthenol to have an effect on our skin and mucous membranes, however, our bodies must convert the ingredient to pantothenic acid. Once it has done this, panthenol can have positive effects on the structure of our skin.

What can panthenol do?

Panthenol can already have a positive impact in very small concentrations. It not only enhances the skin’s barrier function but also promotes the production of new skin cells. This is particularly important if we have a wound or broken skin. After all, our skin protects us from viruses and bacteria. But if we have a wound or graze on our skin, it can no longer maintain this protective effect. Panthenol can help the skin create new cells more effectively, enabling wounds to heal faster. Panthenol also has a moisturising effect. It increases moisture in the skin, which can also help combat premature ageing. This is because pantothenic acid stimulates lipid synthesis in the skin. And more lipids also mean that our skin stays elastic and is well moisturised.

The fact that panthenol is often used after sunbathing also shows that it can have a soothing effect on the skin. The cell renewal stimulated by panthenol also helps the skin to regenerate more effectively after exposure to intense sunlight.

In short, panthenol can have a moisturising, soothing and regenerating effect on the skin.

Camomile – what kind of ingredient is it?

Camomile, also known as Matricaria chamomilla, is a very well-known medicinal plant that has been used for different purposes for hundreds of years. It is a composite plant that blooms from May to July. Camomile is rarely found in the wild anymore but the plant with the white flowers and yellow centre can still be seen in many gardens. It is a very low-maintenance plant. The flowers are harvested by plucking the flower head off the stem and then processed for use in cooking or for skincare. But why is camomile such a commonly used ingredient?

What can camomile do?

We are all familiar with camomile tea. We drink it to combat gastrointestinal problems and colds. At pjur, we use camomile in our personal lubricants, which are applied to the skin, and so we are more interested in what effect camomile has on our skin. After all, camomile is also recommended as an aid to healing wounds. As such, camomile is also often used to treat our skin. And there’s a very good reason for this: camomile can have an antibacterial and an anti-inflammatory effect, which makes it a popular choice for treating skin blemishes, spots and acne. When used on our skin, camomile can combat the bacteria that cause blemishes. It allows potential infections on the skin to heal more quickly and prevents new problems from developing.

In short, camomile can have an antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, soothing and calming effect – especially for sensitive skin susceptible to irritation.

Panthenol and camomile in pjur products

We use these two ingredients in our new product pjur BACK DOOR Regenerating to ensure the skin in the anal area feels great. Panthenol has a moisturising effect; it supports the skin’s natural moisture, promotes new cell growth and regenerates and protects stressed mucous membranes. Panthenol provides long-lasting care for stressed skin. In addition to this, camomile soothes and cares for the intimate area. Our new water-based personal lubricant pjur AQUA Panthenol also contains panthenol.
